UNREGMP2.EXE - Entry Point Not Found Error Message

You may get this error when you upgrade Windows XP Home or Windows 2000 to Windows XP Professional. You may also get this message if you try to repair Windows XP Home or Pro. Another part of the message may say “The procedure entry point getIUMS could not be located in the dynamic link library msdart.dll.” Clicking on the error message appears to do nothing and the message just reappears each time.

This is caused by having a newer version of Windows Media Player installed on your previous Windows installation than what Windows XP comes with by default. When you try to upgrade or to repair Windows, the Setup program will try to install an earlier version of Windows Media Player in addition to the newer version that you had previously installed. The installation will then generate the error message and stop. This usually happens when you try to install from a Windows XP CD that does not contain any service packs.

There are a few ways around this message and they may or may not work for your situation. One thing you can do is click Ok until it goes away. This may require you to click Ok 200 or more times for it to work. Or you may get lucky and only have to click it 50 times or so. Holding down CTRL while clicking may give you better results.

You can also try to use Task Manager to close the error message. To do this, follow these steps:
